Learning is at the heart of everything I do. I live by the mantra 'always be learning,' especially from engaging and inspiring people.
This mindset has shaped my career, allowing me to guide, educate, and connect with others in meaningful ways. Lifelong learning isn’t just a practice; it’s a way to foster growth and build relationships that matter.
With over 40 years of hands-on patient care, my journey began in 1983 at the International Chiropractic Clinic in Hagåtña, U.S. Territory of Guam, followed by academic appointments, private practices, and retail franchise clinics. Along the way, I’ve reviewed over 25,000 patient files – serving as a med-legal consultant, qualified as an expert witness in over a dozen superior court jurisdictions, and allowed to testify in dozens of jury trials in California.
My mentors and experiences have shaped me into a subject matter expert in chiropractic law and ethics. These qualifications are backed by practical knowledge and a passion for helping others excel in their field.

1️⃣ In 1976 I first began chiropractic school when I was 20 years old. But after one semester, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to explore other paths—everything from electrical construction, pre-dentistry to marine biology. Marine biology was fascinating; but hosted limited career opportunities, not unless I pursued a PhD so I pivoted. Instead, I earned my B.S. in biology and made my way back to chiropractic school. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
2️⃣ During my final years at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I found a creative way to subsidize tuition costs—I worked and lived at a mortuary. As an apprentice embalmer, I assisted with first-calls and autopsies in exchange for free rent, utilities, a $300 monthly stipend, and $10 for each first-call—along with the teamwork of three other roommates. We each rotated night shifts, weekends, and holidays. We still joke about the "stiff competition" digging up that job—because everyone was dying to get it!" Thanks to the generosity of the owners, Gene and Irene Reese, I managed to graduate debt-free, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.
3️⃣ One summer during college, I worked as the skipper of a 40-foot wooden vessel, called the Foxy-Boy III—moored at an isolated summer camp on Catalina Island. My job was to ferry supplies for 300 guests twice weekly from San Pedro and Avalon to Long Point. That boat was dodgy but dependable, and looking back, it should have been boarded by the U.S. Coast Guard for inspection—but never was. I can still taste the salt spray on those 6-hour solo crossings of the Catalina Channel—sometimes in thick fog or navigating six to eight foot wind swells. That summer wasn’t just a job—it was an adventure that shaped my resilience and determination.
1️⃣ I earned my Eagle Scout award when I was 14, following in the footsteps of my father and older brother. As an overachiever, I went further and earned a Bronze Palm for the Red–White–&–Blue Ribbon by the time I was 15—and then I discovered two different things... #1. S.C.U.B.A. diving and #2. girls—life was never the same.
2️⃣ My first job as a chiropractor took me to a private clinic in the middle of Micronesia. Hagåtña, is the capital of the U.S. Territory of Guam—6,087 miles away from the tight-knit community in Northeast Los Angeles where I grew up. If there’s one lesson I learned from that experience, it’s this: don’t believe everything you read in classified ads from trade journals, and always have a return airline ticket in hand before you leave home.
3️⃣ My wife Kathleen and I met in 1979 and dated on and off for five years while I was at LACC. In 1984, I made a bold move and invited her to spend her birthday month with me in Guam. During that trip, I proposed on her birthday, and she said YES! We married the following year and have been happily together ever since. On our honeymoon in Palm Springs, it snowed in February for the first time in 35 years—a rare and beautiful sign of the good fortune that's followed us ever since.
4️⃣ As the saying goes, "if it isn't nailed down it's edible, and what I can pry loose isn't nailed down." I'll try anything at least once. I make yoghurt and kefir every week, along with sourdough bread or sauerkraut—always tinkering with the recipes. I've got a twin sister who's 5-minutes older than me, summited Mt. Whitney twice, (the first time when I was 8 years old) traversed the Grand Canyon twice, and swam in the waters below Beaver Falls in Havasupai Canyon, Arizona.
